Jimmy Ngui Kim Choo

Jimmy Ngui, 83, has spent his lifetime immersed in teaching art for both ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels in Singapore schools. Early in his career, he took it upon himself to learn to paint with oils, prepare canvases and learnt a range of art techniques ranging from copper and aluminum tooling, wood carving, woodcut printing, batik printing, ceramic, and mosaic.

He complemented his ‘hands-on’ approach to art by viewing and reading about the life and works of Singapore’s ‘Nanyang’ School of painters such as Liu Kang, Chen Wen Hsi, and Georgette Chen as well as leading European painters such as Constable, Delacroix, Sisley, Monet and art ranging from Realism to Post Impressionism.

Ngui enjoys painting the Singapore landscape and capturing nostalgic environments such as Singapore’s Old Chinatown, the Singapore River, and Pulau Ubin. He has also made many paintings of the Western Australian landscape.

Jimmy Ngui is currently retired but spends many pleasurable hours with his canvases and paints.
