Singapore Artist

Ang Ah Tee 洪亚弟

Ang Ah Tee is a second-generation Singaporean artist who specialises in watercolour, oil and acrylic paintings. He is well-known for his vibrant landscape paintings and striking abstract works. A strong palette knife technique and random brush strokes are his signature styles. His recent works display a combination of western elements and Chinese ink strokes.

Born in Singapore in 1943, he received his art education at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) while still attending formal school between 1960 and 1962. He was mentored by veteran artists Cheong Soo Pieng and Georgette Chen. In 1977, Ang, then a clerk at Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), decided to become a full-time artist after winning competitions at PSA and Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

Ang travelled extensively around the world to paint and he liked to paint on-site. In 1978, he made a switch to acrylic paint, which allowed him to paint swiftly and spontaneously.

Ang Ah Tee was awarded the Cultural Medallion by the Singapore Government in 2009.

Ang has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Singapore and internationally. His works are collected by various private and corporate entities, including the banks, Maritime Museum Sentosa and Shell Companies in Singapore. His works are also in the collections of Singapore Art Museum, National University of Singapore, Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Indonesia, among others.

Ang Ah Tee has held more than 15 solo exhibitions between 1980 and 2016.
